Grouse Hunting at Klotz Lake Camp
The Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse and Sharptail Grouse are enormously abundant in this part of Northern Ontario. We hunt along the many logging roads and trails around the camp. Our grouse are not nearly as "skiddish" as the grouse further south and many local hunters use their 22 calibres. It is not unusual to be out for only an hour or so and bring back your daily limit of each species. Many times we have to get out and "shoo" them away from our vehicles.
Grouse tops the menu list around here in the fall and with such an abundance of them, it is nearly impossible not to go home with your limit! Don't forget, there are also varying hare (snowshoe rabbits) that are covered by your small game tag. Many of our customers enjoy a combined fall fishing, grouse and rabbit hunt to round out their stay
VERY IMPORTANT: In order to get a small game tag in Ontario, you must provide proof of hunting experience. Be certain to bring with you a current hunting licence from your home state. Also, be sure to bring your "hunter orange" outwear. Camouflage orange is not acceptable in Ontario.
Your Grouse Hunting Package will include accommodations for the week, a boat and motor (oil, gas & bait extra ), in addition to your small game tag and conservation fishing licence. The package per for 2 hunters is $500 per hunter, per week (Canadian Funds).
